John Stursa was a young kid from Lorain who spent his free time posting videos that he liked from local artists on his YouTube page, and eventually his website. Little did he know that an endorsement from Cleveland icon DJ EV would turn that website into the ultimate taste making guide in Cleveland’s hip hop landscape. I’m From Cleveland has turned into the bible of Cleveland hip hop, and everyone from LeBron James to Kid Cudi is paying attention.
The site doesn’t discriminate when it comes to submissions- anyone can send in music. But when it comes to who gets the attention of the blog and it’s powerful social pages- that’s often determined by who sends in the content. Stursa admits that he’s not as concerned with volume of followers. He’s much more concerned with the power of the people interacting with the page. Those powerful people are now using John and his team to find new blood in the Cleveland music scene, including Cleveland’s reigning music king, Machine Gun Kelly.

Labels, Dj’s, other publications- they are all paying attention to things like the IFC.com “Cleveland Rooted” Spotify playist that adorns their page. There you can find the hottest songs in not only The Land, but the entire Buckeye State.
So what’s next for the city’s most powerful music blog? They started a new web interview series “The Land Line”, and they plan on extending it’s run, but beyond that, Stursa is keeping his 2019 marketing plan tight to his vest.
“I don’t want to give away ALL of our plans… but we have plans!”
There is little doubt that those plans will continue to keep that IFC flag flying high above Cleveland’s hip hop landscape.
