Company119-5 Must-4 Ways to Make Your Social Media a Success-Dec15-2Did you miss out on our latest event, Get Social with Company 119? Our team held the event at Western Reserve Land Conservancy in Moreland Hills, where we had an in-depth conversation about social media—from strategies for gaining followers and having your posts seen to tips for keeping your channels updated with content. We’re recapping some of the key takeaways from our discussion to help you make your social media a success.

1. Never launch a social channel without a purpose.
Before you decide whether your business should have a social media presence, take some time to discuss your purpose for being on a particular social channel. Are you trying to gain an audience? Promote your product? Create some momentum for your brand? If you have a clear purpose and intention for your business being on a certain social channel, you are far more likely to experience success toward your goals.

2. Remember that you don’t have to be everywhere.
From Instagram and Snapchat to Twitter and Facebook, there are dozens of social channels, with new ones created regularly. Do not be tempted to launch a social media presence on every new channel. Be strategic and thoughtful in determining where it truly makes sense for your company to be. Not every business belongs on photo-driven Instagram, for example, particularly if your business does not have a strong visual component to what it does on a day-to-day basis.

3. Wherever you are on social media, be active.
An inactive social channel is not doing your business any favors. Rather, it can actually be hurting your brand. If a user searches for you online and comes across a Twitter feed that has not been active for two years, think about what that signals to the user. While your business might be current and active, your channel suggests otherwise. In that few seconds of looking at your dormant feed, a user can assume you are out of date—or even out of business.

4. Think of your website as a content hub for social media.
Once you establish a presence on a social channel, it can be a challenge to keep it updated with fresh, new content on a regular basis. To help, think of your website as a content hub. You are likely creating content for your website, such as news releases or blog articles. This content is perfect for “feeding” your social media channels. When you share and link back to these content pieces, you are extending the reach of your message.

If you are wondering how to measure success on your social channels, these words of the great Walt Disney will offer some motivation: “Do what you do so well that they will want to see it again and bring their friends.”
