Don’t Lose Customers with Weak Calls to Action

Company119-Don't Lose Customers with Weak Calls to Action-Nov15 There are three very important words never to be forgotten in a digital marketing campaign: call to action. A strong call to action is the key to generating revenue through online sales. On the flipside, a poorly performing call to action can be the roadblock to online sales. But how do you know if your calls to action are weak? Easy: You aren’t converting any customers—meaning no new sales are coming through your website.

There are several common problems with calls to action, including the following:

Your website does not have any calls to action. The most obvious and immediate problem is that your site lacks any calls to action. If a user does not know where to go to contact your company or make a purchase, opportunities for sales are being lost. You must give your prospective customers a push in the right direction, whether it is to submit a contact form, download a coupon, or schedule an appointment.

Your call to action is hidden. Is there too much clutter on your website? If so, a user may not know where to look when he visits your site and could easily overlook your call to action. It is very important to make sure your site design incorporates very clear calls to action.

Your call to action is vague. Does a user know what you want them to do? Use simple and concise language so that a user knows exactly what action you want them to take. A call to action does not benefit your business unless it is understood by your prospective customers.

Your call to action doesn’t convey any urgency. If your call to action does not give the reader any motivation or push to act now instead of later, the reader will probably wait. Including a time limitation in your call to action, such as Call now to receive a limited time 20%-off discount! creates a sense of urgency and importance. It is also best to use actionable verbs, such as Call or Download.

Your call to action does not include a benefit. Remember that most of us are motivated by benefits and incentives. If you want your user to make a purchase or sign up for an e-mail list, you must offer them some sort of benefit for doing so, whether it is a discount, special offer, or an exclusive coupon.
