Are Your Trade Show Leads Turning Into Sales?

How to Structure Your Site For SEO Success

2 MIN READ

Cleveland website design is about more than incorporating brown and orange into every site!

Site structure plays a huge role in how visitors view your site, and therefore your brand.

User experience (U/X) is simply the interaction a visitor has with your site.  Is it easy to find what they need or not. It’s that simple. But the same things that impact the U/X can also have an impact on  SEO.  Google sees you when you are sleeping (metaphorically of course), and if your site design is unorganized or cluttered, Google knows.  Therefore it knows that your U/X will be bad, and finally, it knows that customers won’t like it.  That impacts your SERP, but it also impacts your Domain Authority.  Before you know it, you’re buried in the mire for whatever search terms you are trying to rank for.

www.dreamhost.blog had a great article highlighting “5 Fail-Safe Rules for Structuring Your Website” that we found to be a great reference.  Among the rules they suggest:

  • Start with a plan
Have your sitemap laid out before you begin to work on your site, so you know where you want it to go!
  • Symmetry is key
If you have one dropdown box with 8 entries and the others on your page each have 2, that probably means that you need to reconfigure your sitemap.
  • Pay attention to your slugs
If you slugs are too long, Google’s bots will have a harder time searching them and might not prioritize them highly.
  • Keep your menu easy to find
If visitors can’t find what they are looking for they will leave.  Make sure your menu is easy to find, and easy to navigate.
  • K.I.S.S.
Keep it simple!  Limit it your menu to 5-6 key areas and cut it off. Make it as easy as possible to find your way across your site!
