Madison Veterinary Hospital

A Four-Legged Refresh

The Madison Veterinary Hospital has been serving the small community of Madison, Ohio for nearly 50 years. Dr. Zulandt took over in 2015 and brought a new perspective to a practice that had been around for a long time. Company 119 built a website for the hospital years ago, but as time went on, it had become a little dated from a design perspective, and Dr. Zulandt wanted to keep things fresh. So, he tasked the team at Company 119 to give the site an update, focusing on making it user-friendly for visitors and capturing the compassion and quality that they expect when they bring their furry friends in for a visit.

Our Challenge

When we do a site refresh for a client we’ve worked with in the past, our challenge is to come up with something new and exciting without losing the feel and aesthetic of the brand. Some designers start from scratch when doing a refresh, forgetting that visitors familiar with the old site are going to want some recognizable elements to make them feel comfortable. The site menu was chaotic and hard to navigate, so we needed to design the refresh with user experience at the forefront of our creative process. A site refresh should make the site better aesthetically as well as functionally, which is exactly what Dr. Zulandt was hoping to accomplish.

The first step in refreshing the site was to come up with a new design for the Home page. The Home page on the old site was cluttered, so the first thing the team did was clear out some of the content that wasn’t necessary. Several call-outs were moved to the Home page and a much more button-focused layout was introduced. Now, instead of searching through drop-down menus to find information, the primary pages are one click away. The calls-to-action were made highly visible with a bright green color to contrast against the blue and white on the rest of the site. A photo gallery was added to the bottom of the page so visitors could experience a visit to the clinic without physically being there.

The classic blue and white colors remained and the standard Madison Vet logo is still featured, but the header now has an adorable picture of a dog and cat playing in some grass. This couples with the call-outs to create a visual Home page that is pleasant in the eyes of visitors.

Click-to-call and email buttons were added at the top of the site, and the word “Contact” is bolded in the menu to make it easy to find. A form was added to the Appointments page, making it simple for a patient’s information to be entered into the site. The online pharmacy and pet insurance page gives easy-to-follow hyperlink buttons to click to get to the 3rd-party sites that handle those services for the hospital.

The site is now bold and bright, more inviting and easier to use than ever before. The staff at the Madison Veterinary Hospital is friendly and always ready to assist, and now they have a patient-friendly website that is just as accommodating as the team. When you have a sick puppy or an injured kitten, the last thing you want to do is struggle to find the help you need to make them better. Now, the Madison Veterinary Hospital can offer the assistance patients need within one click, making it one of the fastest and most user-friendly sites in the veterinary world.
